Launching Substack Dashboard Service

I pushed the button to email twenty people on the Substack Dashboard waitlist at 10 AM ET this morning.

In my last post, I explained how this project had become a maze of problems. In the previous 34 days, I’ve spent countless hours troubleshooting problems, re-loading data, revising dashboard queries, writing code, and testing the sign-up workflow.

I’ve deleted and rebuilt the server hosting this service multiple times, tested the downgrade and upgrade process to ensure future growth, and found and fixed bugs in the code that pulls the data from Substack public pages.

In short, this obsession of mine has turned into a second job, while working on my 9-to-5 that sucks a lot of mental energy.

What is in it for me?

As a Substack creator and toolmaker, this WIIFM question has been on my mind.

What can I provide that would help other creators reach their goals?

I created a survey to find out people's main pain points. Based on the survey responses, I wrote this article that outlines what Substackers are looking for.

I created a waitlist for interested people to join, and I was surprised to see all 20 slots filled quickly. I limited the size of the waitlist to 20 people to ensure I have the time to support this initial launch and provide excellent customer service.

What is your growth journey?

Writers and creators are seeking growth, which could be in many dimensions:

• Personal improvement in writing skills

• Increase in their audience

• More paid subscriptions

In my growth journey, I found that using and analyzing data worked well for me.

Since Nov 21st, 2024, my newsletter has grown to nearly 600 subscribers. Most of the growth has come from the insights I learned using the Substack Dashboard, which I initially created for myself.

I shared my insights in the posts, and these three posts have brought over 60% of my new subscribers.

As I finish this post, two brave people have signed up for the Substack Dashboard service in the first 17 minutes after the email went out.

Now, I need to focus on supporting and helping my customers get the most out of the service they’ve signed up for.
