When I moved from Scandinavia to the United States some 25+ years ago, I carried the essence of my homeland—its values, colors, and stories—with me.
The culture shock was real, and it took me many moons to sort things out. Thanks to my new colleagues, who patiently explained the American way of life and invited me to their social circles, I felt welcomed as I built my new life.
As I started this newsletter a few months ago, I sought a theme connecting these two worlds and reflecting on my journey.

I have vivid memories from childhood when I first experienced the magic of cloudberry picking.
I was five years old, and my small hands clutched a tin bucket as I walked beside my mother through the Arctic foliage. She taught me to recognize the subtle signs of ripeness and to look for the berries hiding under leaves and bushes.
What a thrill was it pushing aside the damp, cold leaves to uncover a golden cloudberry and the way its tart sweetness burst on the tongue. The hardest part, of course, was to resist eating all of them on the spot. This was like the Stanford marshmallow test on steroids!
